Birzhan sal Kozhagululy (1834-1897). A prominent Kazakh poet, composer, was born in the vicinity of Kokshetau. Birzhan, as a talented singer who perfectly knows the dombra, became known to the people early on. He created unique musical and poetic works, traveled a lot to villages, participated in many competitions. Gathering talented young people around him, the poet created an independent nomadic theater.

Birzhan sal opposed the prevailing patriarchal customs. The poet's life was full of difficulties and hardships. After being persecuted and becoming a victim of inter-natal clashes, he fell ill and died in 1897.

The theme of love occupies the main place in Birzhan's works. Among such works can be called "Gashygym", "Gashyk zhar", "Laylim-shyrak", etc. Over 40 of Birzhan's poems have survived to this day.

It is known that he was a great master in the art of poetic contests. Among the best manifestations of creativity in this genre is his competition with Sarah Tastambekova, for whom he specially came to Zhetysu to meet. Birzhan's poems have raised national art to a new level. The people, who highly appreciated Birzhan's poetic and musical talent, gave him an additional name - sal. Sal combined song, poetry, and dramatic genres of art in his work. Birzhan sal left behind famous students such as Akansere, Jayau Musa, Baluan Sholak, Doskey Alimbayev, etc.

The height of the monument to Birzhan Salu is 11 meters, the sculpture is 5.75 meters, and the width is 2 meters. The material of the pedestal is Kurdai granite, and the sculpture will consist of bronze. The author and sculptor is Ermukhametov Timur.

The monument was erected in 2019 along the Nur-Sultan - Petropavlovsk highway of Republican significance.
